4 Things Your Technician Should Inspect During an AC Service Call

Blog

You rely on your air conditioning system for home comfort regardless of the season. Therefore, the last thing you want is for your unit to malfunction when you need it the most. The smartest way to manage unexpected repairs and ensure that your AC is at its top performance is by scheduling regular maintenance. Here are four inspections your licensed technician will conduct during an AC service call.

1. Check and clear your condensate drain line

Your AC condensation drain line is responsible for allowing moisture to drain out of your system. That said, if your condensate drain line becomes clogged, moisture will accumulate in your AC, leading to water leaks and other moisture-related problems. Therefore, your AC technician will inspect your system for any cracked drain lines and repair or replace them. They will also clean your drain line to remove any bacteria and mold that may be present. Cleaning is still essential to ensure that your AC unit drains liquid condensate properly.

2. Inspect your evaporator and condenser coils

Your HVAC evaporator and condenser coils need proper airflow for efficient transfer of heat out of your home. So, during your scheduled air conditioning service, your technician will begin by checking the condenser coil in your outdoor unit for the accumulation of twigs, leaves, and other debris. Then, they will go on to remove any dirt that has accumulated over time. As for the evaporator coils indoors, your AC repair technician will inspect and remove any pet hair or dust in the coiling fins that may be restricting proper airflow.

3. Inspect and adjust your AC refrigerant level

Your air conditioning unit has metal tubes running between the air handling unit and exterior compressor or condenser. These tubes carry your system's refrigerant, which helps in regulating temperatures in your home. Therefore, your AC repair technician will check whether your AC has enough refrigerant. If they discover that your air conditioning unit has low refrigerant levels, they will check for hidden leaks and seal them.

4. Inspect and replace the air filters

The top priority for any professional air conditioning maintenance service is inspecting and replacing air filters. Your AC air filters collect dust, and if they are not routinely maintained, they may end up clogging your indoor AC filters and impair your system's ability to pull in air. Therefore, during your next AC service visit, your technician will unclog and clean the dirt that may be restricting proper airflow.

It is crucial that you contact an AC repair technician to schedule routine maintenance of your unit. This will keep your unit running optimally for longer and reduce the likelihood of failure or costly repairs.
